To assert gender equality amongst the students, an awareness and sensitization programme on “We are equal” was organized by the Gender Sensitization Cell of IARI-NEH Umiam, Shillong Hub, on 7th March, 2025. The programme was addressed by the faculty members of the hub and resource person, Dr. Daiahunlin Mawlong, Assistant Professor, Shillong Law college. Dr. S Hazarika in his address, emphasized that the feeling of equality amongst the children and students should be inculcated from the home itself. Dr. Hazarika and Dr. S. Deori discussed about the matrilineal society structure of North East India. Dr. Mawlong discussed at length about the different aspects concerning gender equality in the Indian society. She appraised the students about the difference between sex and gender in the societal perspective. The students appreciated the lecture by the resource person wherein they got involved with a practical exercise also. Dr. Anirudhha Roy, Co-Ordinator and Dr. N. Uttam Singh, faculty were also present in the programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Tasvina R. Borah, chairperson and Dr. Rumki Ch. Sangma, Dr. Badapmain Makdoh and Dr. A.A.P.Milton as members of the Gender Sensitization Cell.
